Art prize, picture perfect

ANOTHER successful Scone Art Prize and Scone Photographic Prize was held last Friday night.

More than 130 people attended the opening night of the combined exhibition.

Scone Arts and Crafts secretary Scott Cooper said there was a great turnout and the night went very well.

He said by Tuesday afternoon 17 paintings had been sold and there was interest in another six.

“The sales have been excellent so far,” Mr Cooper said.

Scone Photography Competition president Scott White said the competition also went well and was pleased to announce Scone resdident Vicki Saunders as the winner of the travel section and for coming first and third in the novice section.

Mrs Saunders won the travel and novice sections with her photo 9014 Dove Lake, Cradle Mountain, her third place photo for the novice section was 9013 Do You Want to Play.

Mrs Saunders has not submitted many works to the competition over the years, and Mr White said he had been trying to get her to enter for a long time.

Second place in the novice section went to Lainie York for 9025 Race Day.

The second place winner in the travel section was Paul Boniface with 9007 Slow Travel and third place went to Jon May-Steers for 9006 Gateway.

Highly commended in the travel section went to Hugh Howey for 9005 Ambush.

Amanda Albury won first and second place in the horse

section.

Miss Albury came first with 9027 Millie and her filly and second place with 9028 Shadey Break.

Third place in the horse section went to Sally Ward-Thomas with 9020 Safe.

Mr White said he would like to thank judge David Hill and sponsors Scone Instant Images and Scone Chemist.

There were also many awards for the Scone Art Prize.

Among the awards was the Pam Jennings Open Prize.

Pam Jennings’ daughter, Edwina Duddy and her granddaughter Charlotte Duddy spoke about her before announcing the winner of the award, Judith Hoste for Afternoon Shaddows.

First place for the Banool Conservation Prize was Graham Cox for Sydney Harbour Sunlight and second place went to Elspeth Watt for New Life After the Fire.

The watercolour prize went to Gerhard Ullmann for Morning Light and Helen Edwards won the print/drawing prize for Memorial Site.

The miniature prize went to Joy Cooksey for Patience, Graham Cox won the pastel prize with Buchanan Moonrise and the local prize winner was Michael Holland with Journey’s End.

William Maguire won the sculpture section with Stylised Flower Gate and the ceramics winner was Lyn Nash with Coolamon and Bush Fruit.

In the Banool Children’s Award the winner of the kindergarten section was Emma Woods, the stage one winner was Rachel Quinn, the stage two winner was William Grant and the stage three winner was Gabie Madden.

Overall first place went to Caleb Kaney.

School with the best standard went to Scone Public School.
