AGRICULTURE and horticulture based Tafe teachers from throughout NSW converged on Scone this week to learn more about carbon health and increasing carbon levels in soil.
The professional development workshop was held at Scone Tafe as part of Green Collar School Awareness.
The two day course was run by Louisa and Michael Kiely from Carbon Farmers of Australia and included guest speakers Dr Brian Murphy a senior scientist from the Department of Environment and Climate Change at Cowra and Thea Ridley a soil biologist from the micro club at Mudgee.
Mrs Kiely said the workshop discussed the relationship between carbon soil health and input on product health on farms and what is the potential for these soils.
Mrs Kiely also said the workshop was a way of finding out what the future could be for holding Tafe courses on carbon farming.
Some of those at the workshop had told Mrs Kiely and the other organisers that they had been getting enquiries from students and farmers on the need to Tafe to be at the cutting edge of the scene.
