Increased comfort and ease of mobility are two benefits the residents of Murravale Aged Care Hostel are cherishing after the donation of new beds.
Last month the hostel received seven electric beds leaving only three rooms without one.
The beds were donated by the Rotary Club past district governor of district 9670, of which Murrurundi Rotary Club is a part of.
Past district governor Howard Grigor sources electric beds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service from hospitals throughout the district from Newcastle to Murrurundi and Bourke that are upgrading.
When the service didn’t require any further at the time, Mr Grigor made contact with associate Nat Doonan, Rotary Club of Murrurundi treasurer, to see if anyone in Murrurundi could put the beds to use.
Mr Doonan said due to the rural location and isolation of the people in Murrurundi, Mr Grigor thought Murravale and its 24 residents would benefit.
He said the club would endeavour to get a few more beds in the future to ensure each room had one.
“Murravale is a community asset that we like to support.”
The beds are electronically controlled to lift and sit residents up in bed and are valued at about $2500 each.
Murravale Aged Care Hostel manager Barbara Morgan said she was extremely grateful for the donation as it had been a dream of hers to have an electric bed in each room.
“There are benefits for the staff and the residents as it saves a lot of injuries to staff members and when residents aren’t well or their needs increase we can sit them up in bed.”
