A gap in community amenities will be filled in the next month when extra lighting and signage is erected at Scone Railway Station.
Solar transport lighting will be installed at the bus and train interchange to light up the car park and access point as well as signage constructed to provide information and contact details for Country Link and City Rail services.
The improvements in amenities will be made possible by a $17,708 grant under the NSW Government’s Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants scheme.
The need for extra lighting and signage was first raised by Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre manager Lee Watts about two years ago, however last year’s grant application was unsuccessful.
Mrs Watts said she was excited to receive the grant as it was a community project for the community that will allow people to access the information they need as well as appreciate greater safety.
“Even though we are only an agent for Country Link, I think it’s important to offer travellers all the information they need,” she said.
“The extra solar lights will allow people on the later train in winter and people who leave their cars at the station overnight greater confidence, as well as enhancing safety for those who walk to and from the station.”
Any information relating to train transport including tickets, maps and contact numbers will be available.
Mrs Watts said the upgrades would make amenities more accessible, comfier and safer for the community.
