A safety workshop for gopher and scooter drivers with a focus on reducing accidents and injury will be held in Scone next month.
The Gopher and Motorised Scooter Information Workshop is being provided by the NRMA Safer Driving School Road Safety Grant program and will be hosted at the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre.
The workshop is not only for gopher and scooter drivers, but also motor vehicle drivers and pedestrians.
The aim of the workshop is to reduce the risk of accidents and injury to gopher and scooter users by increasing the users’ awareness of safe practice.
The free workshop will be offered on Monday, February 6 and again on Monday, February 13 from 11am to 1pm with a light lunch provided.
Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre manager Lee Watts said a NSW Police representative would provide information on safe practices and Upper Hunter Shire Council representatives would provide residents with the safest routes to essential services and frequently visited areas.
“I would encourage all gopher and scooter users to attend,” she said.
“It will also be great for individuals interested in purchasing or hiring the equipment, carers, families and community groups.”
Scone’s Les Foote has signed up for the workshop as he was given a motility scooter in September and is keen to learn as much as possible about his machine.
Mr Foote said this was the first education session he will go to and he is hoping to learn more about the legal aspects and insurance if he happens to hit someone or they hit him.
The workshop is made possible by a $1500 grant from the NRMA Gopher Go Safe Program.
Bookings can be made by contacting the centre on 6545 2562.
