Lone Pine chopped down

25 Jun, 2009 09:42 AM
A DESCENDANT of the Lone Pine at Gallipoli has been ordered to replace the Lone Pine that died on the construction site of the new council chambers.

The tree, which was planted at Bicentennial Park, was moved late last year to make way for the new council chambers.

Tree experts were consulted and the Lone Pine showed stress early on and did not survive the relocation.

It was removed from the

site yesterday.

A new Lone Pine will be planted when landscaping is complete on the building site.

The Legacy group will decide on the replanting and more details will be released soon.
