New bodies for good cause

A fun weight loss challenge has seen more than $500 donated to a worthy local charity this week.

Borne out of the idea of two staff members, Johnsen Walker Financial Services transformed into the Biggest Loser at the end of last year with director Michael Johnsen and his staff setting a goal to lose weight for Christmas.

The team of five as well as Michael’s wife Zenda put their minds to the challenge and collectively lost 14 kilograms in the 12 week period.

The boss was the successful winner of the biggest loser title and has continued to lose weight since inspiring the team to continue their challenge indefinitely.

With the motivation to support a local organisation in the process, a set of rules were applied where a weekly weigh in saw the team pay $10 if they had gained weight, $5 for staying the same weight and nothing if they had lost.

Overall they made $275 which Mr Johnsen matched to donate $550 to the Scone Cancer Support Group.

Mr Johnsen said the weight loss challenge was a bit of fun in the office and was simple as they cook lunch together each day at the office.

He said they simply ate healthier and conscientiously ate less with some also exercising more.

“We decided to donate the funds to the cancer support group as they are local and are a good organisation to support.

“We challenge every other business in Scone to do something similar, choose their own charity and challenge themselves,” he said.

“Healthy mind, healthy body, healthy business.”

Scone Cancer Support Group committee member Pam Saunderson-McLeay said on behalf of the group she was very thankful to receive the donation.

She said they were hoping to fit out another palliative care room at the hospital so the funds would more than likely be used to assist in that process.
