A VIRTUAL Shed blokes barbecue will take place at Bunnan on Sunday, March 7.
Linden Green from Interrelate will speak on the night and will share insights and engage in a conversation about building community resilience.
Muswellbrook Toastmasters vice president and community relations representative Tony Rockley, has also been invited. Tony was the winner of the 2009 regional finals in the humorous speech category.
Following the barbecue at Bunnan, another function with guest speaker Chris “Buddha” Handy will be held in Scone at the old Civic Video store in St Aubin’s St, across from the Royal Hotel on Friday, March 12.
In Queensland, Chris “Buddha” Handy is almost better known than his nick namesake. This irreverent former Wallaby hooker, accountant, publican and media phenomenon is an institution for rugby lovers and for anyone who enjoys a great yarn told by a likable bloke.
Chris Handy is an ambassador for the Queensland Reds, a rugby commentator and television reporter. He is most famously known for his patriotic and lighthearted commentating quips and his “Go you good thing” outcry.
In his playing days, as a barrel-chested prop forward Chris “Buddha” Handy played 54 games for Queensland and was one of the select band of Wallabies to have lifted the Bledisloe Cup on two occasions.
Chris Handy is the author of ‘Well I’ll be Ruggered’ and a contributor to many rugby periodicals. He has a multitude of sporting anecdotes, making him a popular after-dinner speaker.
Project Officer for the Virtual Shed, Bernie Rischke said both evenings should be very enjoyable and now is a good time to come and see what it’s all about if you have not been to a Virtual Shed function yet.
“All the functions we’ve had over the past couple of years have been well supported and received positive comments,” Mr Rischke said.
“Many of the men who have come along to Virtual Shed functions have commented on how they’d love to see a permanent Community Mens’ Shed set up in the area,” he said. “At the Scone Neighbourhood Centre we agree this would be a valuable and useful community asset offering opportunities not currently available.
“We see the Virtual Shed evenings as a natural way to continue to promote this idea and generate interest in getting a working Shed up and running.
Nominations will be called for at the function on March 12 for people interested in being part of a steering committee and anyone wanting to get involved is urged to come along on the night.
Bookings for the two events are essential and can be made through the Scone Neighbourhood Centre on 6545 2562.
