 Sad year for association

Sad year for association

19 Nov, 2009 01:32 PM
ANOTHER year is coming to a close for the Scone Country Women Association, and it has not been an easy year with the sudden death of president Gwen Alford and patron Heather Ashford and several members are also battling illness.

But in true country woman style fun and fundraising was still a priority of the branch.

Donations were made to drought and bushfire stricken areas as well as diabetes Australia, local ventures, SCADS, schools and Youth off the Streets to name a few.

Egypt was an interesting country to study and the international, agricultural and environment lunches held were enjoyed by all who attended.

Craft and Friendship days were held twice a month and are looked forward to and perhaps would be better described as Stitch and Giggle.

Two delegates attended the state conference at Broken Hill and came back inspired by the courage and dedication they saw in the women out there fighting to improve failing systems, in particular health and education.

In September, nine members travelled by bus to Maitland to participate in Hunter River Group Cultural day where most of the 25 branches of this group present a cultural item.

It was a very proud Scone “choir” that brought home a trophy for their performance.

The AGM in October saw the new faces of Scone with Anne McPhee voted in as president, Margaret Newman secretary and Margaret Marshall as the new patron.

These ladies and also those who took on the positions of officers are to be congratulated and can be assured of their member’s support.

A Christmas lunch at Strathearn Lodge is planned after the December meeting.

CWA resumes in February 2010 and if you would like to help someone who needs help please come and join.

Happy Christmas and a prosperous, peaceful New Year to all.
