There will be space for welding, space for woodwork and metal work and space for painting.
Everything they need will be right at their fingertips when the men move into their brand new shed at the Upper Hunter Men’s Shed.
The first sods of soil were turned on their shed location near the Scone Senior Citizens Centre in Oxford Road in recent weeks and the men are already rubbing their hands together.
The foundation base for the new shed has been constructed by Upper Hunter Shire Council staff and the concrete slab is expected to be laid this week.
Their kit shed is expected to be erected by the end of March to finalise the $50,000 project funded 50 per cent each by the Upper Hunter Shire Council and the Scone Race Club with the support of local Upper Hunter thoroughbred studs.
Upper Hunter Men’s Shed president John Pratley said the group of about 27 men were very excited to see the work started.
Since the group first formed in August 2010 it has progressed very quickly and outgrown their small premise, which has restricted any larger projects being carried out.
“Once we get the shed constructed we will work on fitting it out and getting into it to get projects done,” Mr Pratley said.
“It’s all happened fairly quickly, but we are very lucky to have had great support.”
Mr Pratley said all new members were welcome, as were any donations of tools, machinery or power tools that may assist the group in their shed.
