THE Lake Glenbawn Swim Classic attracted a large crowd on Tuesday morning.

The three swim races for the classic attracted 116 entrants much to the pleasure of Lake Glenbawn Classic club secretary Debbie Racklyeft.

“We were very happy, it went very well,” Mrs Racklyeft said.

“There were good conditions, but it did get a bit choppy in the afternoon,” she said.

Tuesday’s competition was the fifth time the Australia Day fixture has been held.

The overall winner in the 1km swim was Alexandra Riordan from Lake Lands who took 15 minutes and 27 seconds to complete the race.

Local swimmer Mason Reichel came in a close second; it was the first time that he beat his older brother.

The best local female swimmer was Linda Stewart who came fourth in the 1km race.

The 3km swim was won by 14-year-old Waylan Murray from Kempsey who took 40 minutes and 51 seconds to complete the race.

This year, a relay was also held for the first time in the 3km race with each member of a team of three swimming 1km.

The winning team of the inaugural relay was the Langley Dam Dashers from Muswellbrook.

The winner of the 5km swimmer was Alexander Gallimore from Cardiff Heights, who completed the race in 1 hour, 9 minutes and 15 seconds.

Competitors in the three races aged from eight-year-olds to 65-year-olds who came from as far as Sydney to compete.

“Everyone was very happy and there were no incidents,” Mrs Racklyeft said.
