Hot weather no deterrent for Scone golfers

IT was hot weather, heavy conditions and hard works on Saturday for the Monthly Mug after all the rain. It was up to promising golfer and 2009 champion Nathan Waters to show how it is done with a two under par 70 (net 66) to take out the day from Kyle Blinco one over par ( Net 68).

B Grade went to Andrew Phelps 74 net and C grade to Col Solway 72 net. Nearest the pins were won by Justin Stafford 0.4m on the 2nd/11th for a jackpot, and yes he did get the putt and George Campbell 3.47m on the 8th/17th.

Balls were won by the grade winners plus Ross Banks 71, George Betts 72, Phil McGuirk, David Druce, Paul Smart and Ritchie Bennett 75, Steve Morse, Stewart Dawson, Mick Reynolds and James Smart 76, and Simon Hodge 77 on a countback.

The popular nine hole competition recommences this Wednesday and golfers of all levels are welcome. A barbecue will follow at about 5.30pm.

On Sunday, there is a nine hole Four Person Ambrose for all members and friends. A shotgun start at midday and trophies this month are donated by Dymocks’ Butchery. There are prizes to third place, nearest the pins and an encouragement award. This should be great fun so get you name down quickly as numbers are limited. A barbecue will follow the golf.

On Sunday, the Junior Pennants Team started their 2010 season with a draw against Maitland at Singleton. Wins went to Nathan Waters, Will Barnett and a draw to Kyle Blinco.

The seniors’ team recorded their first win of the season with a two matches to one victory over Paterson at Cessnock. Wins went to Stewart Dawson and Phil McGuirk four and three and George Campbell and Steve Morse two and one. Next week, the A Grade starts its season as last week all games were at Scone and the home team had the bye.

Next Saturday is an 18 hole Stableford event for the Rod Spratt and Kerry Benning Trophy, Round one of the Summer Shield and a Dr Pye Point score day.

Don’t forget that Presentation Night will be held on Saturday, January 30 with a Dinner to start at 7pm. Cost is $25 and tables of 10 can be booked now at the Club.

A good sized field entered the 18 Hole Stroke event on Saturday which was round two of the Summer Cup. At the start of the day many were in contention and it was Andy Phelps (70, 68) defeated Nathan Waters (70, 68) on a countback to take home the trophy.

The day’s event was won in a Grade by Andrew Black 68, on a countback, from Dave O’Donnell, B Grade to Gordon Halliday, 67, and C Grade to Neil Clydsdale, 67.

Nearest the Pins went to Steve Murray 0.36m on the 2nd/11th and Will Barnett 2.26m on the 8th/17th.

Balls were won by the Grade winners plus Nathan Waters and Andy Phelps 68, Dave Curry 69, Jim Elder 70, David Druce, Don Albert , George Campbell, Kyle Blinco , Col Hindle and Clayton Rogers 71, Terry Winser and Phil McGuirk 72 on a countback.

There was no competition on January 2 due to the rain.
