ON Saturday, February 20, the cricket grand final was played out between Scone Golf Club Bulls and reigning premiers Bunnan.
You could sense there was nervous energy among the bulls camp as they hadn’t been involved in a A grade grand final before whereas this was Bunnans third grand final in a row winning the last two.
The Bulls won the crucial toss of the coin and captain Mick Davidson elected to bat much to the relief of fellow team members.
Knowing that Bunnan would bowl tight we needed to lay a platform, however G Davis struck in the first over. C Purcell 24 and T Wilson 29 got the ball rolling then captain Mick Davidson got 21.
Things were looking shaky until a late innings flurry from J Taylor 30 not out and S Constable 13 to reach a total of 135. Among that, there were more ducks than at a shooting gallery.
Bunnan started with all guns blazing and at 0-27 chasing a small target things were not looking great.
A few quick wickets and a few quick runs they were 3 for 70.
That was until our left arm tweaker M Davidson came on and turned the tide with quick wickets and good economy in tandem with J Taylor who bowled 12 overs straight in a lion hearted spell.
Bunnans final wicket fell for 104, 31 runs short of the target.
The Bulls best were J Taylor 2/18.M Davidson 4/29. Bunnans best were M Day 34, J Davis 19 and G Davis 4/38.
The celebrations reflected what it meant for the Bulls to win a grand final after working so hard all year with such a youthful team.
