The Great Cricket Challenge between Scone Aero Club and Pays Air Service was held in recent weeks.
What started out as a bit of a joke over a quiet drink at the Scone Aero Club one afternoon turned into a cricket match between the club and Pays Air Service management and staff.
The date was set and the match tactics began.
The aero club had a big disadvantage with most of the players over the age of 50 and some players in their 70s, with Pays’ side having the advantage with the young Pay boys home from their school break.
The game started at 3pm on a Friday afternoon with two innings.
The playing field was a bit of a challenge with large cracks and heavy grass areas in the outfield.
The competitive nature of the game was fierce and the spectators were having as much fun as the players.
Anne Quinell and Rosemary Shopland were the scorers on the day.
Pays Air Service had a slight lead at the end of play with the man of the match going to Bernard Cronan with two wickets taken, a good number of runs and a classic dive for the day.
The next challenge will be in about three months.
