On Friday, March 5 Scone Swimming Club will be holding the annual Business House Relay.
This is Scone Swimming Club’s major fundraiser for the year and is an evening of fun for everyone.
The central event is the Relay itself, carefully (and sometimes confusingly) crafted to give swimmers of all abilities a chance of winning the coveted overall trophy.
Teams of six swimmers initially swim a time trial to determine their “base” time.
Then teams swim a relay heat that is handicapped according to the “base” time.
The winners of each heat go into the final.
Winning is not necessarily about being the fastest team overall, but can be achieved by swimming consistently.
Previous winners have been the Hill Family, Halletts Solicitors, Landmark Townsend and last year the Wiley Wombats.
In addition to the handicap relay there will be an invitational relay as well as gift races, all with prizes for the winners.
There will be special team prizes for best efforts on the night such as costumes, cheering, best dives, swimming style etc.
Entry to the pool will be free for all swimmers and spectators.
It costs $100 per team of six swimmers, this includes complementary barbecue and drinks for swimmers.
The night is a great one for spectators as well with the inimitable Jim Callinan on the microphone. Come and cheer on your friends and relatives.
The water temperature of the pool is holding up well so far and conditions for this year’s event promise to be perfect provided we don’t get too many cold nights in the next week or so.
