SCONE athletes Maddy Adams and Nikki Hollingsworth both competed successfully at the Combined Catholic Schools cross country trials in Sydney last Friday.
Due to the huge amount of rain that Sydney had received in the days leading up to the races the Eastern Creek raceway was very muddy and slippery, making conditions somewhat treacherous for runners.
Maddy raced first on the 4km course, finishing very strongly to end up sixth out of the 16 year old girls. Nikki’s race was one of the last for the day, so the course was particularly slippery. She kept up a steady pace for the entire race and finished third in a time of 12 minutes 9 seconds, only five seconds behind the winner.
“I felt pretty good after the race. I’ve been training quite hard so was prepared for a tough race. The course was a bit boggy but at least it’s not as hilly as the Lochinvar course,” Nikki said
Both girls will now compete at the All-Schools cross country competition in Sydney on July 31.
Scone will also be represented by Nick Crackett from Scone Public School.
