Scone Thoroughbreds action

02 Jul, 2009 11:07 AM
DANIEL Ritter has once again proven himself as a leading player in Country NSW by gaining selection for the second consecutive year.

Daniel has been chosen at lock and is the only player from the Central Hunter power side to be selected in what is a history making achievement for himself and the club.

Daniel will become the first born and bred player from the Scone Thoroughbreds to gain selection into NSW Country in consecutive years. Considering the players that have represented the club this is a wonderful achievement and one he should be proud of.

NSW Country will play Queensland Country on July 12 at Forster and we encourage as many supporters to make the trip to watch one of our own juniors play for the prestigious NSW Country side.

This Saturday afternoon will see the Scone Thoroughbreds take on equal competition leaders the Singleton Greyhounds in both reserve grade and first grade. Prior to the senior grades Scone junior rugby league will be playing two competition games at Scone Park.

The reserve grade game will start at 3.30pm and first grade at 5.15pm with this being our first competition game held under the newly constructed lighting at Scone Park. To coincide with this the club will be holding their Sponsors day which will provide a great atmosphere for all involved. All sponsors are invited to attend the exclusive marquee at the ground to enjoy food and refreshments provided by the club.

Onto the footy front, the Graham White led reserve grade side will be looking in a change of fortune and look at getting back into the winners circle against a very strong Singleton side. The Scone side welcomed back Scott Pennell last week and rumour has it a few more players may join him this week.

These players will add experience to a side that has all the credentials to really give the competition a shake.

First Grade will look to continue on its recent winning way with coach Darryl Rando really putting the emphasis onto the players to perform week in week out. The side has been hampered by injuries and the make up of the side will be unknown till a Saturday fitness test for a few players. The side will be without its country representative Daniel Ritter due to him being unavailable to play this weekend. But the players are not relying on the individual, rather playing as a team and they are looking forward to the clash. With this game being the top of the table clash and the history between the clubs this should be one game not to be missed this season.

The club looks forward to seeing you at Scone Park on Saturday and also invites you back to the Scone RSL club for after match presentations.

GO THE THOROUGHBREDS !

Thoroughbreds try scorers for Saturday’s game against Merriwa were Graeme McRae and Ben Johnson, 1 conversion for Brett Murray. Although the teams were even in the first half Merriwa went on to win 18 to 10.

This year, the Scone Thoroughbreds has also started the Thoroughbred Fillies for current and former wives and girlfriends (WAGS) and committee members.

Ladies Day will be held at Scone Park on August 8 when Scone plays a home game against Aberdeen.
