SCONE High students, Matt Finlayson and Reagan Collison teamed up with St Josephs student, Ben Marshall to compete at the Jet Black NSW All Schools NSW Mountain Bike Championships held on June 21, at Yellomundee Regional Reserve in western Sydney.
Around 190 riders converged at the venue to take part in the event with 21 teams contesting the boys division.
The competition was a relay style race where teams had to complete the maximum number of laps in four hours.
The boys got off to a good start and soon worked their way into third place.
They kept up the pace and were the first team to complete 10 laps.
The tussle between first and second place was intense.
At the end of the race they had completed 15 laps to take second place finishing just over one minute behind Chevalier who took first place.
This was a very impressive performance from the Upper Hunter boys who are new to the sport and have not competed at this level prior to this event.
This was Matt and Ben’s second competition having won the Jet Black Six Hour Enduro at Port Macquarie in March, but it was Reagan’s first race.
They all agreed that it was great to be able to see how they compared to experienced riders their own age.
Ben and Matt are now planning to team up and compete in another race in August.
