Rodeo beats rain at Cassilis

09 Feb, 2012 10:15 AM
Despite the high rainfall at the end of last week a successful Cassilis Rodeo was held on Saturday under brilliant sunshine.

After the decision was made on Friday to go ahead with the rodeo the skies opened up again.

On Saturday stock contractors had some trouble getting trucks out of water logged properties and the mini bucking ponies had to swim across a flooded river to get there, but the rodeo still went on.

Although the events were a bit late starting and the crowd numbers were down, there were still about 1300 people attend.

About 240 competitors travelled from Tamworth, Gunnedah, Wollongong, Coonamble, northern NSW and across the Hunter to join in the fierce competition.

Cassilis Rodeo committee member Gale Stanley said the canteen run by volunteers from the two Cassilis Churches and the Park Trust came out in front, but the profits were down on last year.

“The gates where manned by the Cassilis Public School P and C Association and the Cassilis Pony Club, and they will be given a donation for doing this,” she said.

“The well behaved partygoers were entertained until late by the DJ, and those that stayed at the ground where able to buy breakfast on Sunday morning.”
