FORMER Scone resident and Group 21 Rugby League referee, Robert Thew has been selected in the NSW Rugby League Junior Representative Squad.

Robert now referees with the St George Referees’ Association in Sydney.

Robert received word on Monday, February 8 that he had been successful at the recent rep trials.

Junior Reps take in the Harold Matthews (16s) and SG Ball (18s) games in the NSW Rugby League competition.

The Junior Rep teams are the junior sides of the NRL Clubs.

Robert gained his ticket as a 17-year-old and has worked his way the through the ranks in Group 21 to referee at a first grade level.

He moved to Sydney to take employment as an accountant with a clothing firm.

He joined the St George Referees Association and continued on with his career in Rugby League.

The Junior Reps are a stepping stone to becoming an NRL referee at the highest level. As Rob progresses through the NSWRL he could then be graded as a referee in the NRL and referee the NRL lower grades.
