THE Aberdeen Tigers were defeated 30-16 by the Singleton Greyhounds in the final round of Group 21 Rugby League matches at McKinnon Field, last Sunday.
Singleton were first to score with a converted try. Aberdeen centre Sean Tanner responded with a try under the posts following a scoot from dummy half by hooker Daniel Hoogerwerf. Centre Andrew Nicholls converted the try to make the score 6-6.
The deadlock was quickly broken when Singleton scored a converted try to take the score to 12-6.
The Greyhounds extended their lead to 22-6 with further tries as they dominated possession of the ball.
The Tigers finished the first half well but could not bridge the gap.
Aberdeen opened the second half in fine style when Andrew Nicholls pounced on a loose ball and offloaded to fullback Shane Hasselmann who out sprinted the defence over 65 metres for a spectacular try 60 seconds after the break. Andrew Nicholls converted the try to peg the lead back to 22-12.
Singleton wound their lead out to 12 points when they kicked a penalty goal. Two minutes later, Aberdeen winger Tim Lonergan received a serious knee injury and play was halted for 30 minutes. Our club would like to wish Tim a speedy recovery from his injury.
In the 67th minute, Sean Tanner scored his second try after a dazzling run by winger Nathan Cantor. This try bought the score back to 24-16.
The Tigers were unable to score again as Singleton sealed the result with a converted try in the 78th minute. There was plenty of effort from the Tigers, however they were not able to put the Greyhounds defence under enough pressure due to turning over possession on early tackles.
