SCONE JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE

18 Jun, 2009 09:48 AM
Scone 12s defeated East Maitland 16 to 10. In a very close encounter Scone came out on top thanks to a good team defensive display. Scone forwards matched the bigger East Maitland pack giving room for the quick Scone backline to make good yardage. Good effort boys, but we need to work harder at training. Special mention to Blake Kellett for scoring his first try. Tries Hayden Cox, Hamish Johnson, Blake Kellett. Goals Jackson Anshaw, Isaac Smith.

Scone Old Boys are inviting all parents and supporters to Scone Golf Club on Saturday, June 27 from 6.30pm for a great night out. Tickets are available from Scone Golf Club at $40 a double and $25 single which includes finger food, entertainment by “MG” and a special appearance from the “Wickard Bros.”.

Scone Old Boys are heavily involved with our young players through the purchasing of training equipment, running off-season training programs, helping on game days, monetary assistance to players in furthering their football and recently funding a trip to a Knights game for the Under 14’s to 16’s. So if you’d like a fun night come along and support Scone Old Boys which supports our players.

U14s (firsts division)

In a game where Scone started well with Dillan Clarkson, Bill Death, Jonathon Conroy-Ferluga and Tom Vincent showing strong attack up the middle setting up two quick tries in the first fifteen minutes, giving Scone the lead going into half time 10 leading West Maitland 8. In the second half West Maitland had all the ball and slipped away to win the game 38 -10, unfortunately Scone was held up three times over the try line which could have easily turned the game around. With some amazing displays in defence by Coady Saunders who chased an attacker the full length of the field and held him up over the try line saving a certain try. Damien Peattie and Corey O’Shea were also heroic in defence, with Corey fighting out of his weight division at times taking on the big blokes. Matthew Lewis had a fantastic captain’s game. If we stay together and keep working hard at training things will turn around. Well done boys.

U14s (second division)

Scone v West Newcastle Saturday, June 13

Conditions were good at Scone Park on Saturday for the game against West Newcastle.

Scone was eager to get points on the board early in the game with a try in the first 5 minutes scored by Gavin Holland and converted by Jarrod Wicks. Scone backed up with strong defence to keep West Newcastle away from their line and a change in possession resulted in a runaway try by Joe Adams. Sione Fonua soon found a chance and was over the line to score for Scone making the half time score 18- nil.

After half time the boys were again in early with Drew Brown making a break and three passes later Lachlan Whitehead is over the line to score making the score 24 – nil.

The boys seemed to relax a bit in the second half resulting in three successful tries and conversions by West Newcastle changing the score to 24-18.

The announcement by the canteen ladies of discounted pies may have been just what the team needed the boys soon fired up with Gavin ‘trail blazer’ Holland going in for yet another try soon followed by Jarrod Wicks also going over the line. Joe Adams sealed the game by doing the long arm stretch to put the ball over the line on the full time siren. Final score being 42-18.

Congratulations to all the boys for a great game and to Jarrod Wicks for converting 7/7 a 100 per cent success rate. Well done.
