I HAVE lived in Murrurundi for 45 years and the employment situation is only getting worse and there seems to me that everyone who is against the mine thinks the Pages is the only river in the Upper Hunter and the seem to forget that the Isis River is the major flow for Gundy and downstream to the Hunter.
As I drive a watercart on Upper Hunter Shire and spend most of my day on the river and you would not rely on the Pages River up here at Murrurundi because most times it is dry.
My father who is now 80 saved Murrurundi from running out of water when he divined water in 1965 and again in 1980 for no financial gain. If people are prepared to listen he will tell you that you will never rely on the Pages River for a big volume of water. I have nothing against the horse industry but I think the Upper Hunter Shire and Scone should look what they are riding on because I feel if they did a survey they would find they are riding on the mining industry from the two neighbouring councils and not the horse industry so I hope they can give Murrurundi a chance with the two mines and employment in the area.
