TRAFFIC lights when elsewhere they are coming out and being replaced by roundabouts.
Pedestrians will not walk half a block just to stand at the lights, they will cross where and when they want. Maybe council ranger will be on duty 24 hours a day seven days a week to book these people.
Want to slow the traffic? Introduce three roundabouts, one at Susan St, one at Liverpool St and one at Kingdon St.
Want to make the town really safe? Get rid of the passing traffic (some council staff say I don’t know what I am talking about). Get a bypass in.
Forward planning years ago would have made that a cheap reality. Yes some towns die but others grow and prosper.
Wind Farms that do produce electricity “when the wind is blowing” cost a lot to set up. Are they really worth the expense of setting up? To the land owners yes, to the rest of us?. Once they go in will Scone Mountain be next, there was a tower measuring the wind up there for some weeks last year.
Subdivisions where the ground (soil) expands and contracts with the weather, just look at the expensive foundations of some of the houses in the Fig Tree Estate.
Some property owners with lots of land and been here for ages, are not thinking of the Upper Hunter and the future, they are thinking of their back pocket and the future.
Electrical Sub-stations where they shouldn’t be. Electricity and water do not mix – never have, never will. Hydrology studies that (it has been whispered about) are flawed.
What about the rest of this area? The Upper Hunter Shire area is vast, diversified and a delightful place to live.
If, by the sound of things, we leave it to council and the developers will it be the same, will it be better or will it be a place to leave.
Do we the people of the council area have a say? Yes we elect councillors to do the job for us, to hear our voices and do what is best.
If decisions are made that go against our wishes because they have “information” that would cause that decision, is it not beholding to them to fill in the gaps so we all know. If we were a bunch of hicks who wouldn’t know if our backsides were on fire, then yes, let council make the decisions. However I don’t think that there is one backside on fire out there. There is a lot of knowledge, interest and anger at some of these decisions.
