Netballers take out Hunter state final

The Scone Netball Representative season continued its strong start with both the opens and 17s sides winning their semi finals to reach the finals of the Hunter State League.

The opens won their game against Maitland 45 to 39 while the 17s beat Singleton 40 to 36.

The Scone 17s played well in their final but was overpowered by a strong Woy Woy team going down 37 to 22.

Coach Zenda Johnsen said it was a very hard physical game played in hot conditions.

“The lead changed constantly and unfortunately we had several injury stoppages.

“Unfortunately one of our players is now out for the rest of the season,” Ms Johnsen said.

Fortunately for the rest of the team, the pain was worthwhile with the Scone Opens victorious over Hastings Valley 45 to 42.

The Scone Opens Representative team went on to claim the title of 2012 Hunter State League Division 1 Champions.

“The girls went really well and it is a great warm up for us for the state championships which we will be playing in the June long weekend,” Ms Johnsen said.

Netball resumes this Saturday after the

holiday break.
