Junior League had a rest for the Minis and Mods but that didn’t stop them entering their respective school sides in the Peel School Carnival at Tamworth.
Scone Public School had entered two sides in the Under 8 division. These sides were ably coached by Rick McInnerney and Peter Warden.
Once they were divided evenly they took different paths to the final. It was here the boys battled each other in an outright war. No mateship spared until the final hooter.
Even though there had to be a winner, it was great to see these sides made up of our champion weekend sides. Further to this, the St Mary’s under 8s were defeated by Scone Public in the semi and this side holds close to the remainder of our weekend 8s side. Well done, boys.
The Scone Public Under 10s went so close, beaten 6-4 in the final. This side, coached by Jock Miller and assisted by Darren Gunton, is a mix of our Thoroughbreds’ two under 10 sides. They played all games in the right spirit and should hold their heads high as they also did the school proud.
As mentioned, St Mary’s went with two sides, which were both coached by Aaron Watts. The 7s team, which had a few new faces with limited exp-erience, played their hearts out and were victorious in the 7A final. This side will be a force to be reckoned with again next year.
The St Mary’s 8s also pulled in some new recruits from the school yard and were very unlucky not to make the final. They displayed great sportsmanship and should be proud of their efforts.
All coaches would like to thank their respective schools for the assistance given to the students to make this day a successful one.
Scone Public has requested special mention to new league specialist Miss Mateer who led the school with pride, while St Mary’s would like to thank Mr Waters for his unprecedented support.
This week’s local league swings back into full action with minis/mods at Singleton and a huge day of fine rugby league at Scone Park.
If you can spare some time get down to the home paddock to watch all games, with the first being a cracker division 1 game against arch-rivals Muswellbrook. The day will round out with the 16s looking for a victory against Kurri Kurri.
Again the call goes out to any helpers who can assist on the day, especially the canteen, as we cannot supply
the best hot chips in the
valley with no helpers.
Also if anyone is spare Friday afternoon from 4 -5pm we will be setting up at the ground.
