The book ‘Dogs That Make A Difference’ features a close canine friend of the residents ‘Fifi’. 

‘Fifi’ is a maremma bred Delta dog owned by  Aberdeen’s Erin Williams who visits Strathearn each weekend with ‘Roberto’ a foxy cross kelpie, also owned by Mrs Williams. 

Both dogs are fully trained and assessed dogs of the Delta Society -  a not for profit organisation that offers dogs for therapy to visit nursing homes, children’s homes and prisons, as well as being used for canine programs in schools and children with autism. 

Mrs Williams launched the book which captures stories of Delta dogs across the nation, what they do and how they became part of the society. 

The book is produced by Penguin on behalf of the Delta Society with all proceeds being donated back to the society.

Mrs Williams said Delta dogs are highly trained and well socialised dogs, which makes them special for the job. 

A dog trainer herself, Mrs Williams is extremely proud of how her dogs have developed being the first two Delta therapy dogs in the Upper Hunter and was thrilled to launch the book featuring ‘Fifi’ right here in Scone. 

Strathearn therapy and lifestyle coordinator Carole Griffiths said Mrs Williams’ Delta Therapy Dog team visit most weekends and the residents really look forward to it.

She said the social aspect was most important as the residents reminisce about their own pets and it improves their mood and gives an overall positive feeling.
