It has been 19 months since the five-year-old was in the winners’ circle but an impressive trial at Wyong on July 8 has Greg confident he could figure in the placings in the 1400m Satur Handicap.
“I am hoping he can find a bit of form at Scone, “ Greg said.
“He likes racing at home and the bigger tracks suit him.
“His runs this time at Hawkesbury and Gosford weren’t that bad in races that weren’t really suitable.
“He was run off his feet over the shorter distance at Hawkesbury but made up a lot of ground at Gosford which was encouraging.
“He trialled nicely at Wyong and the 1400m here is a much more suitable distance.”
Greg said Clickety Snip, who has won seven races from 28 starts, had suffered from his own early success.
He had won four races in a row between February and April in 2012 and had back to back wins in September and October of the same year.
His last victory was over 1750m at Muswellbrook in December 2012.
“He has been handicapped out of a lot of races since then,” Bennett said.
“It has been hard to find races for him in open company without taking him to the provincials but this looks like a good one on Friday.”
Clickety Snip will be ridden by Greg’s former apprentice Rachael Murray, who has partnered him to four previous wins.
“I don’t have a lot of horses in the winter and we’ve been a bit light on for wins but hopefully we can start turning that around,” Bennett said.
Greg has six runners engaged at Scone including promising three-year-old Lulllaby Baby, who is resuming after a win and a second from her only two race starts.
He will use his in-form apprentice Kassie Furness for the other five rides.
