The past few years have seen her take the outdoor cricket field by storm, but now Scone’s Kirsten Smith is thrashing the indoor arena as well.

The 15-year-old recently represented country NSW at the Australian Junior Indoor Cricket Championships in South Australia.
Smith, a Scone High School student, was selected in the Under 17s NSW Cyclones country girls team to play at the 11th annual carnival from July 6 to 12 at the Morphett Vale ICA Sportzworx.
This year was only the second time an Under 17s country girls side has entered and the first time for Smith, but that didn’t stop the squad playing through the 12 games undefeated to take the title from defending champions, Queensland.
In one game, Smith was the leading batter putting the most runs on the board for her team when she made 29 off 13 balls and was rated second best player in that particular match.
Smith was excited to be invited to play in the side which was made up of country representative girls from Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Bowral, Singleton, Bathurst and Grafton.
NSW Country was also represented by a boys Under 13s, 15s and 17s team.
Smith had the time of her life at the carnival, which she said was a lot quicker to normal cricket and played in a much smaller area with different rules.
Smith said each player batted four overs and bowled two and you only had to run half the pitch.
“There were 16 overs per team and if you got out, you were minus five runs, so you had to make as many runs as possible,” she said.
“It was so good to win, and especially good to beat Queensland on State of Origin day.”
NSW Country played against teams from Victoria, the NSW metropolitan team, Queensland and South Australia.
Smith said she hopes to make the team again next year as the selection for the World Cup Indoor Cricket team will occur at the championships and she aims to make it as well.
She is currently continuing her NSW Cricket Academy training for the Cricket Australia 2014 National Under 15 Talent and Development Squad which will travel to Brisbane in September for a four day training camp at the National Cricket Centre with specialist coaches such as Australian Test great and Cricket Australia’s National Talent manager Greg Chappell.
