Millions of dollars are raised for cancer patients annually, but an important reminder was issued by ladies of Scone on the weekend when they pooled their focus on the emotional impact of the effects of cancer.

Motivated by seeing their own family and friends suffer from the negative impacts of suffering from cancer, a group of young women coordinated Ladies Day at the Scone Rugby Club in support of the Look Good…Feel Better campaign.
A good turnout of ladies patronised the day where they were specially treated with champagne and gift bags thanks to support from local businesses.
The ladies raised $600, which the club matched to donate $1200 to the campaign, however one of the organisers Kriston Harris said it is more important to create awareness in the local Upper Hunter community.
The Look Good…Feel Better program is a free national program that was established in 1990 by the Cancer Patients Foundation Limited to help improve the wellbeing and confidence of people undergoing treatment for any sort of cancer.
Workshops are offered to women, men and teens in Newcastle and Tamworth to help them manage the appearance related side effects that can be caused by cancer treatment.
The program is offered by a group of trained and certified volunteers from within the beauty and cosmetic industry who are passionate about helping people feel good about themselves in their own skin.
According to Look Good…Feel Better representative Maya Zahran this is the first time the charity has been supported in this way through a sporting event, and they are really grateful to the support.
She said the whole day was much more about creating awareness of the organisation, rather than raising a huge amount of money.
With cancer affecting so many people in so many different ways, the charity’s amazing role in assisting people through these difficult times was one of the main reasons the organising committee chose to support it.
Ms Harris said while so much money is put into research, they thought it was terrific that the organisation helps people with what they are going through right now.
“If a little bit of assistance can help these people feel even a tiny bit better through these times, then that is what matters,” she said.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity to spread awareness of what the program offers people in our area.”
Ms Harris said she was really happy with the day as it got people talking about the charity, which was their main aim.
“The club will look at continuing to support this cause in the future.”
