Upper Hunter Shire Council technical services director Alan Fletcher said the council would be applying for recently announced government funding to replace several bridges across the shire.
“The wooden bridge at Starrs Crossing on the Timor-Crawney Road is the next project on our bridge replacement program.
“Every regional council has bridges to replace and we are no exception,” he said.
“Council will be applying for ‘Country Bridge Solutions’ funding alongside numerous other councils across NSW.”
Mr Fletcher said council engineers were currently assessing the Starrs Crossing bridge and would apply for government funding to assist with the bridge’s replacement in coming months.
The Country Bridge Solutions is part of a $37.5 million state government commitment to improving the state’s country bridges.
As part of the initiative, Roads and Maritime Services have developed a pre-fabricated 12 metre concrete modular bridge that will be used to replace numerous regional wooden bridges across the state.
