The under 16s playing against the Tamworth Magpies were the first Scone team to cement their place in the finals with a comfortable 28 to 12 win against a team they had not beaten all year.
They had to claw their way back from a 12 to 7 deficit early in the first half to go into half time leading 14 to 12.
The second half saw the Scone team clean up their work at the breakdown which allowed some faster ball, which saw the inside backs play some attacking football with the Douglas brothers combining brilliantly to cut Tamworth apart through the centre.
Scone quickly raced to a 28 to 12 lead when the game was halted by a suspected neck injury to Scone halfback Campbell Jefferies.
It was the team’s best effort all year with the forwards dominating the set piece and the backs very strong in attack and defence.
The two senior sides carried on the fine work against Quirindi.
Even though Quirindi were forced to forfeit second grade there was the old fashioned player swap and exchange, which allowed a game to go ahead.
Scone started a little slowly and Quirindi capitalised by scoring early in the game and then kept the pressure on to score a second, which shocked Scone back into action.
By the second half Scone were in control and ran out easy winners.
As was the pattern of the day first grade started a little slowly against Quirindi, but soon began to dominate the set piece and then built good pressure mounting some strong phases.
The Brumbies’ defence was excellent and they kept Quirindi scoreless to run out easy winners 53 to 0.
This Sunday both the reserves and the 16s travel to Tamworth Magpies to play in the minor semi finals.
Reserve grade meet Quirindi again and the 16s play the hosts.
The following week first grade travel to Walcha to play for a direct path to the grand final.
