Our minis are hitting their straps with some unbelievable football being played and this is testament to the hard work our coaches are putting into our future stars.
The Under 9s had their first taste of the mod field as well as trialling some new rule changes that the NRL research team have been reviewing.
Our Under 10 Blues reversed last week’s score against Aberdeen to take out the major semi 12-6 in a hard fought tussle.
This sees them with a week to rest before the grand final and Coach Warden will be thank full for the break with the side carrying some niggling injuries.
They will however be cheering the roof down for their mates in the Under 10 Whites who won their way through to the final and will now take on the Tigers. The winner then faces Scone Blue.
As mentioned last week a great effort from both Coaches Pete Warden and Anthony Welsh who split the sides evenly and now have both sides in the race for the premiership.
The Under 11s had a tough day at the office and had their first defeat of the season in the major against arch rivals Singleton 18-12.
After a slow start and not much going in their favour the boys battled back to the final whistle, but just a few fundamental errors made the task difficult.
Coach Kev Watts is not panicking and has a plan to regroup for this week’s final.
The Under 13s did regroup after a heavy loss last week and showed their Thoroughbred fighting spirit to overcome East Maitland 30-12 in the minor semi.
The score sheet shows the forwards dominating with back rower Henry Hall picking up three tries.
Coach Tony Saunders has this side well drilled and will have the boys ready to go in next week’s final, ensuring they leave nothing in the tank, looking for another grand final experience.
Our Under 14s Minor Premiers showed the Newcastle teams if you want a battle they are ready with a courageous 6-4 victory over Thornton/Beresfield.
With a Tom Pickersgill try and conversion the only points for Scone, the boys tackled their hearts out to the joy of coaches Joel Harrison and Codie McCarthy.
Credit must go to these two coaches who turn up every week, as well as fulfilling their senior league duties and having no children (that we know of) playing yet, just to make sure these players are taught the necessary skills to make it all the way to the top.
Great effort Joel and Codie.
Our Under 16s also skipped through to the grand final after toppling the minor premiers in another hard fought battle.
The boys would not give an inch and would not settle for anything but a victory.
Coach Daryl Rando is just one game away from achieving an early season goal of taking these lads to a grand final victory in their final year of junior league.
This is something that would be fitting for this side as they have a great team bond that I have no doubt gets them a home in those tight games.
Good luck to the sides in this week’s final and train hard boys that are straight through.
Once again thank you to all volunteers that helped out on Saturday at Scone Park – the Thoroughbreds are blessed to have so many loyal helpers – all with that common goal to see the Thoroughbreds succeed.
As we all heard former Junior Thoroughbred John Morris retire after 300 NRL games we congratulate Cade Cust, who has penned a four year deal with the Manly Sea Eagles.
