The Upper Hunter Shire Council will be undergoing road and drainage works around the shire this year.
Bedford Street and Kyuga Street in Aberdeen, Barton Street, Little Street, St Aubins Street (Guernsey Street to Aberdeen Street) and Waverley Street (Short Street to Gundy Road) in Scone and Sunshine Street in Murrurundi are all on the program to be completed.
Every month the council releases the information on where and what they are working on for the next month and what was completed the previous month.
If interested you will find it on the council’s website at www.upperhunter.nsw.gov.au
Mayor for a Day presentation
Mayor for a Day was again a great success and the school winners read their entries at the council meeting on Monday night in front of councillors, families and friends.
The competition gives students an opportunity to learn more about local government and the ways that all community members can have input into decision making.
Congratulations to the winner Amelia Grimshaw of Scone Public School and runner up Brooke Wheaden of Aberdeen Public School, and to all the young people who entered.
There are a wide range of issues raised in the 244 Mayor for a Day entries but skate parks are always a popular request.
It’s good to see that a skate park for Aberdeen is getting closer.
Aberdeen Skate Park
Quotations have closed to build the skate park in Aberdeen.
A community consultation was held at the Aberdeen Sports and Recreation Club yesterday at 4.30pm to discuss quotations and to come to an agreement for the location of the skate park and the design.
This is an exciting step for the Deen City Youth Group who have been advocating for a skate park.
Security key to saleyards
Visitors to the Scone and Upper Hunter Regional Saleyards will see several changes being introduced as part of safety initiative works.
These works include the construction of a security fence and monitored entry gate system for the truck parking, truck wash and loading ramp areas.
Additional safety works undertaken by the council include the installation of a new hydraulic gate out of the livestock selling ring, which removes livestock handlers from gate operations when cattle are leaving the selling ring and safety barriers for workers within the ring and in laneways.
Extensive consultation was held with workers and users of the saleyards, particularly the livestock transport industry to ensure that all works were suitable to their needs and meet current Work Health and Safety and Driver Fatigue Management guidelines.
Bridges
Tenders for Garlands Bridge, Woolooma and Doolans Gully Bridge, Merriwa were awarded to Civilbuild Pty Ltd at Upper Hunter Shire Council’s ordinary meeting on Monday night.
The works involve building new concrete bridges.
The existing timber bridges will be demolished with the new ones on the same alignment.
Residents will be diverted through temporary side roads during the construction.
Works on the two bridges will be completed this financial year.
