Among the items of pride and joy was a 1921 T Model Ford C Cab Pick Up and a replica tear drop caravan built on 1934 model lines, which caught the eye instantly.
About 400 people from across the Upper Hunter and beyond braved the cloudy skies and threat of rain for the seventh Big Boys Toys event at Jefferson Park.
As well as the “fantastic” exhibition of vehicles and motor mechanics, there were rides and jumping castles for the children, markets stalls and helicopter rides so the whole family was amused.
About $4000 was raised on the day which will go straight back into the Aberdeen Neighbourhood Centre to keep it alive.
Trophies were awarded for the best exhibits on the day with the highlights being the Shannons Show and Shine award for people’s choice car, won by Michael Farrell and his VW Kombi Camper Van and the Reliance Motorsport People’s Choice Motorcycle award won by Cameron Turnbull for his Harley Davidson custom RSL tribute.
Aberdeen and Scone Neighbourhood Centre manager Lee Watts said she was really happy with how the day went off with lots of new faces and families attending.
“It was good because the Big Boys Toys has become the family day we wanted it to, with something for the whole family to enjoy.
“It was just so great to see all the community together enjoying the day,” she said.
“The event is becoming bigger and better every year and the exhibition of vehicles was just fantastic.
“The funds raised will go straight back into the centre to maintain the five day a week service to the community.”
Retired mechanic Bernie Gray is a regular at the Big Boys Toys as he is an avid member of the Upper Hunter Motoring Association.
The Muswellbrook man said he really enjoyed going to the event, which this year he took his 1921 T Model Ford C Cab Pick Up to.
Mr Gray said he had re-built ‘Tin Lizzie’ himself from scratch and it is one of six vintage cars he owns.
Mrs Watts said the staff have now started organising the next big event – the Aberdeen Christmas Twilight Markets – which will be the next major fundraiser for the centre.
