The staff at the NRMA Scone country service centre have teamed up with the local volunteer team to provide information to residents to be prepared for the oncoming storm season.
A colourful and informative display is set up in the NRMA office in Kelly Street and the staff are running lots of giveaways, promotions and colouring in for the children.
The main objective is to make people aware to prepare for a storm by ensuring they have a safety switch at their home, knowing how and where to turn off power, gas and water, checking electrical equipment, installing a generator and creating and emergency kit.
NRMA Scone representative Jill Clark said any customer who calls in to pay a policy this month will go into the draw to win a home emergency kit recommended by the SES.
The kit contains a radio, first aid kit, candles, matches, torch, emergency contact numbers and home emergency plans.
Scone SES unit controller Allan Davidson said the storm season officially started at the beginning of the month and runs through until the end of summer.
He said the SES has already attended to some storm damage, but it’s hard to determine what the season will be like.
“We are just trying to make people aware so they can be prepared in advance,” he said.
