It's that time of year again; school holidays are just around the corner.
Remember there is always something for youth to do in the Upper Hunter Shire from vacation care at SOOSH to the variety of events held at all libraries in the area.
Have a look on the council’s website www.upperhunter.nsw. gov.au for all activities and events that are being held.
Make a movie workshop
The Upper Hunter Youth Council is hosting a ’Make a Movie’ weekend workshop on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19.
This workshop is open to Upper Hunter students aged between 11 and 16.
The weekend is for young people with an interest in making short films and learning more about cameras, editing and creating movies.
Fore expressions of interest, please immediately send an email to mspora@upperhunter.nsw.gov. au and an information pack will be forwarded to you.
Cycle into spring
The Upper Hunter Shire Council is celebrating NSW Bike Week with a ‘Cycle into spring’ event this Sunday.
Whether you are a biking beginner or a lycra-wearing, Cadel Evans fan, you are invited to join this free, fun family day.
Take a two hour ride to Cressfield Stud or take the kids on a loop of the improved track at the Bill Rose Sports Complex in Scone.
There will also be a sausage sizzle and giveaways for junior riders.
You can even get your bike and helmet checked.

Australia Day
Australia Day nominations will be opening soon.
Get your thinking caps on for who you believe would be a worthy recipient.
All nominations are welcome whether you live in town centres or other locations.
It is great to see the broad range of nominations the council receives.
Liverpool Range Wind Farm
A significant development application for the proposed Liverpool Range Wind Farm has been lodged with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment and is currently on exhibition until October 1.
The proposed wind farm involves the construction and operation of up to 288 wind turbines located on a series of ridgelines near the towns of Coolah and Cassilis and the Coolah Tops National Park.
The project would have the ability to produce around 2,724,700 MWh of renewable energy per year, equivalent to the average consumption of around 340,600 homes.
The construction phase of the project would create up to 829 jobs in direct employment and there would be a requirement for up to 78 ongoing operation and maintenance jobs during the life of the wind farm.
A draft submission to the Department of Planning and Environment in relation to the project has been prepared and on September 9 the Development and Environmental Services Committee made a recommendation to the council that the draft submission of the Liverpool Range Wind Farm be forwarded to the Department of Planning and Environment.
Kia Ora Concert
The Kia Ora Concert’s plans are well underway for March 18 to 20, 2015.
The event is planned to be bigger and better than previous years with about 200 students for the variety of activities held.
The committee is looking forward to the event.
Scone’s overpass/bypass
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss and NSW Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay announced tenders have been called for the $90 million Scone bypass on September 8.
This is a great step towards the bypass and upgrade works to build a bridge over the railway line in Kelly Street, Scone.
Engineering companies were invited to tender a concept design and environmental impact assessment for the upgrade of the New England Highway.
Bulk waste
De-hoard the house, un-clutter the cupboards, make room in the shed.
The Upper Hunter Shire Council’s annual Kerbside Bulk Waste Collection is back.
The weekend of September 27 and 28 is the only time residents can put eligible waste out on the kerb and it will be collected for free during the following week.
Waste put out later than 6.30am on the Monday will not be collected.
Bundles of green waste, broken arm chairs, old carpets and decrepit garden furniture are examples of the sorts of items residents can get rid of during the Kerbside Bulk Waste Collection.
For a full list of items that will and will not be collected see www.upperhunter.nsw.gov.a
