That’s right, the annual Scone Open kicks off next Saturday in Scone and anyone who scores the hole in one on the 17th hole will win a brand new fully registered Mazda 2 automatic car worth $17,490.
The excellent prize has been kindly donated by Saunders Motor Group of Scone with the backing of Mazda.
The hole is the second last on the Scone course and is the longest par 3, but many golfers both young and more experienced will be keen to get it.
Being the first time in recent history such a large and exciting prize has been up for grabs it is certainly a drawcard for the event.
The 2014 Scone Open will be held at Scone Golf Club next Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21 with a four ball mixed and men’s event on Saturday and the stroke and stableford competition on Sunday.
It is the largest golfing fixture on the Scone Golf Club calendar and has been attracting players from across the Hunter River District Golf region since it first started back in 1946.
The competition is limited to 100 players so golfers are urged to get in and register by contacting the club or visiting their website at www.sconegolf club.com.au
Scone Golf Club president Paul Smart said it is very exciting to offer such a great prize this year.
“It’s great to be able to promote businesses in town and to offer such a valuable prize in a small country golf club,” Smart said.
Saunders Motor Group dealer principal Darren Saunders said he was pleased to support the event and if more than one person gets the hole in one, each winner will receive a new car.
“I think it’s a great initiative as the golf club is a good community sporting club that has played a large role in Scone for a long time.
“It’s good to support the club to make the event successful, while also promoting our business,” he said.
“I think we’ll all be more than happy if the car does go off, it would be great.”
Saunders Motor Group is just one of many local sponsors of the weekend including Scone Spare Parts, Isis Motel Scone, Farrams, Scone Sports Store and Hunter Valley Printing.
Other awards up for grabs include the Bob Robb Cup for the stableford winner, the AG White Cup for the scratch stroke winner and the Hunter Valley Printing Cup for the mixed 4BBB scratch on Saturday.
Golf will hit off from 7.30am to 8.45am and 11.15am to 12.50pm on Sunday with breakfast available from 7am.
