The Brumbies have made the most of the two tier system which was implemented to give the clubs from the smaller towns a chance for some glory away from the usually Central North powerhouses from the bigger country areas.
First grade will play Walcha who disposed of Tamworth Magpies last Sunday to book their spot in the grand final against Scone.
The Brumbies disposed of Walcha in the major semi a fortnight ago, however Walcha have improved since then and would be going into Saturday’s final as hot favourites.
Last Sunday in Walcha, Scone reserve grade created an upset not seen since the turtle thrashed the hare over the Melbourne Cup distance of two miles.
Sunday’s game felt like a Melbourne Cup for the lads as they clawed their way into the game to score a try on the bell.
Matt O’Donnell caressed the Gilbert with his Puma covered right foot for the conversion to sale through the uprights to give Scone a magnificent victory.
The reward a 4.30am start next Saturday to get to Narrabri for a 9.30am kick off against Gunnedah, as most of the players will be just getting home by that early hour, a road trip the night before is planned.
Scone will have two players from the glory days nine years ago with Rodsa and Gus Burns both having a gallop on Saturday for reserve grade and first grade respectively.
It will be a great day out with plenty of supporters heading up to the cotton belt and with the speed limit at 110km/hr it takes no time to get there.
First grade start at 1pm followed by the tier one grand final between Narrabri and Pirates at 3pm.
Both Scone teams are in with a sneaky chance.
