Event organisers were ‘blessed’ with blue skies which brought crowds in by droves from Sydney, Gilgandra, Orange, Willow Tree, Newcastle and beyond.
Upper Hunter Shire councillor Ron Campbell said he thought the key to the event’s success was variety.
“What we are doing at the show and the entertainment we are providing is what people are enjoying.
“There is so much variety to see and do so we are catering for different needs and expectations,” Cr Campbell said.
“The Merriwa Springtime Show is not only good for the local economy but is good for the wider community.
“What we do here at the show, you often don’t get in the big cities and I believe what we have is equal to, if not better than many of the larger regional centres.”
District classes were very well supported with full entries across the board in the pavilion, wool, stud cattle, sheep and horse events.
District horse events judge Lyn Quirk said she was very impressed with the quality of local horses and riders.
“These events are so important for riders to improve their skills and work towards entering the open competitions,” she said.
Supreme champion district rider this year was Sally Waters of Merriwa on ‘Koarlose First Lady.’
Champion junior girl rider went to Ava Peel on ‘Koorna Millions’ and Roy Lawler taking out champion junior boy.
Zeb Pearce on ‘Icon’ was sashed champion senior boy with Nicole Martin and ‘ET’ champion girl.
Champion led draught horse went to Rebecca Janssen and ‘Captain’ while supreme heavy horse went to ‘Samurah Park Excelsior’ owned by SY Moloney.
Merriwa farmers David and Katrina Goodear cleaned up in the stud cattle section winning champion beast, champion pen and highest point score on the hoof.
Champion lamb and pen of lambs went to Frampton Farms, Greenarm while LD Campbell Pty Ltd took out the Challenge Cup for highest point score overall.
Most successful exhibitor in the wool section went to Bully Gully, also winning champion fleece bred by a local exhibitor scoring 92.5 in the housed fine merino category and champion unhoused fine merino.
Mark and Di Inder took out the champion fleece crossbred and commercial value class.
Jill Inder of Merriwa was the most successful exhibitor in the horticulture pavilion while in the Fairfax Pavilion Alex Addams of Merriwa won the Binks Family Perpetual Trohpy for highest point scoring overall exhibitor.
