“George is a giant of the National Party,” Bede Burke, State Chairman of The Nationals said today.
“He was a very successful leader of the party, has served with distinction in numerous ministries and shadow ministries and at this year’s Annual Conference was awarded life membership of The Nationals – the highest honour the party can bestow on any individual,” Mr Burke said.
“The party owes a great debt of thanks to George for his service over the past 26 years. The Nationals now represent over 92% of the land mass of NSW and George Souris can take a great deal of the credit for the extraordinary success of The Nationals over the past two decades,” Mr Burke said.
“But he has never forgotten his fundamental driving force – to serve regional people with diligence and integrity,” he said.
