Splendid weather was matched with quality polo for the cup which was accompanied by the Bengalla Cup and others throughout the three days.
Some 21 teams made up of players from Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, NSW, England and New Zealand joined forces to compete in the carnival.
The eventual proud winners were the Ellerston team of Geoff Fisher, Guy Kirkpatrick, Gus Boonzaair and Alex Barnett, who put up an impressive display of controlled and entertaining polo.
The low goal was won by the Belltrees team of Anto White, Will White, Lachie Gilmore and Greg Carns and the Patrons Cup high goal challenge was taken out by the team from Riverpark, including Angus James (WA), Ollie Hipwood (UK), Dirk Gould and Kelvin Johnson.
The winners of the Bengalla Cup were the McGrath team of Andrew Williams, Scott Kennedy-Green, Justin Cooper and Rob Archibald.
Scone Polo Club president Peter White said a welcomed 25 millimetres of rain on Thursday made the going challenging for all players but fine weather, fine food and wine and great entertainment subdued any thought of frustration with the conditions.
Mr White recognised the valued support of Bengalla throughout the past five years in which they have built a relationship with the club in honour of Dougal Archibald, as it was his workplace before he tragically died.
“They have recognised the importance of community and family in the sport of polo,” he said.
Key organiser Alex Warner thanked all the sponsors and in particular Olivia Morgan from Polo in the Paddock for bringing so many new faces to Scone for the whole weekend; spending tourism dollars and enjoying the excitement of yet another equine sport in Australia’s only ‘Horse Capital’.
Mr White said the gate takings from the Saturday will be donated to the club’s preferred charity - the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
More polo comes to Scone over the next two weekends with the continuation of the Spring League 8 Goal Challenge.
