The friendship group of about 35 women are putting together a history book ‘Ninety Years of Service’ capturing the highlights of the CWA throughout the past nine decades, and they are seeking assistance from the public.
The book will be based on a history booklet already written by Laurie E Clout, which covers from 1925 to 1985, however will continue through to today.
Scone and District CWA’s inaugural meeting was held on Friday, October 3, 1925 in the Surman’s Rooms, a building located near the Fortune Palace, and the first meeting at the current CWA Rooms was held in 1955.
A section of the book will be dedicated to Sister Ada Joyce Bridge who the rooms are also dedicated to as the local woman was an army nurse in the 2/13th Australian General Hospital, Australian Army Nursing Service and was a Prisoner of War at Singapore in 1942.
The Scone branch is the second oldest in the Hunter River Group which covers the region from Belmont to Murrurundi, out to Dungog, Nelson Bay and Merriwa and includes 26 branches being the biggest group in NSW.
