Not only does he have a great eye and steady hand, he also knows how to operate several lever action rifles with alarming accuracy.
This is probably why Wagner is now Australia’s number one junior sporting shooter in five divisions.
“I first started shooting in 2012 with my dad and uncle (Scott Wagner) at the Weipa target range.
“I really like shooting because you get to travel around and meet people.
“It’s also a lot of fun,” the 14-year-old Scone High School student said.
Wagner represented the Sporting Shooters Association Australia (SSAA) Merriwa branch at the SSAA Junior National Lever Action Championships held in Townsville on October 4, 5 and 6.
Not only did he out shoot both his dad and uncle, he also won the national junior under 15 title in the rimfire, three gun, two gun, classic and centre fire events.
“I used three guns at the event, a 357 Magnum, .22 Marlin and a .22.250.
“It was good to compete against other people from all over Australia and to beat my previous best in all my events,” he said.
Wagner has now set his sights on the NSW state titles and to defend his national title again at the championships in Canberra in 2015.
