The 27 Student Representative Council (SRC) members and other students continued the annual ritual of gift giving to the residents of the aged care facility and judging by the smiles and happiness, the gesture was greatly appreciated. 

This is the third year the SRC has visited Strathearn after spending the past few weeks collecting the 99 presents from other students and teachers, and wrapping them ready for the residents. 

This year they also had a whole box full of scarves that Dorothy Clementson had knitted for her granddaughter, Abbey Hallett, to give to the residents. 

Each year the Strathearn staff sends through a wish list for the residents and the youngsters of Scone deliver. 

Love and gratitude filled the room last Thursday, along with laughter and the musical tunes of flautist Sophie Dawson who performed a few songs for the crowd.

Sophie was involved with the musical program that the school coordinated with the residents last year, and as they enjoyed it so much, she decided to go along and perform for them again. 

Scone High School SRC president Jake Speck said the students really enjoyed getting the gifts and delivering them was even better. 

“Just to talk to the residents and see their happy faces when they get a present is great.

“Some don’t get gifts from anyone else at Christmas, so it’s nice for us to be able to give them one,” he said. 

Strathearn activities officer Carole Griffiths said the gesture was absolutely wonderful as the residents love to see the children and receive the gifts. 

“It’s really good for those who don’t get many visitors and it gives them all something to be excited about.”
