The event was a resounding success with the weather being kinder and the community really embracing the essence of being together and enjoying the festive spirit.
The outdoor movie of choice was ‘Arthur Christmas’ and although some littlies couldn’t keep their eyes opened it was largely enjoyed by the crowd.
There was face painting, jumping castles, trike rides, carols, more than 30 market stalls, a visit from Santa and much more for all to enjoy.
About 500 people showed their support of the event, which is hoped to be made an annual event to include all community organisations in the area.
Scone Neighbourhood Centre manager Lee Watts thanked everyone that joined the Scone Neighbourhood Centre and Scone Visitor Information and Horse Centre at the community event.
She said it was great to see so many organisations including the Upper Hunter Men’s Shed, Lions and Rotary Clubs, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Scone Support Group volunteers and all the stallholders take part.
“The kids enjoyed a photo with Santa and a moment to inform Santa of that special gift they would like left under the tree for Christmas,” Mrs Watts said.
“There is so much work that goes into these events but it was definitely worth it.
“A big cheer to the Neighbourhood Centre staff Jaala and Jan, Visitor Information Centre staff Belinda and Kara, the volunteers that helped with raffles, setting up and face painting - Judith, Stephen and Jamie and to the Scone Singers for our carols.
“Finally to the businesses, local and away, that supported the raffle and to the Upper Hunter Shire Council for sponsoring the event.”
Mrs Watts also thanked all those who gave a gift to the Gift Giving Tree organised by the two centres, as she was able to donate many presents to Strathearn for Christmas.
