The historical Thornth-waite Cricket match held late last month was another great success in remembering the first photographic memory of cricket in Australia, taken by then owner Joseph Docker, on the property based west of Scone. 

The re-enactment was first instigated two years ago, and was again held last month.

Despite the blistering hot conditions about 50 people  turned out in force to support it and the beneficiary – Scott Memorial Hospital. 

An impressive $1370.91 was donated to the United Hospital Auxiliary as a result of donations, the raffle of an oil painting and a $1000 donation from the Morgan group.

Event organiser Anne Davies said she was so pleased to be able to hand over the donation considering the conditions of the day.

“Despite the heat we had about 50 community members come out and gave great support, with many enthusiastic about supporting the hospital,” she said. 

This was the first year the event donated to the hospital, but as Dr Scott was a keen cricketer and captained the Australian team in England in the 1880s, Ms Davies thought it would be an ideal recipient. 

Ms Davies thanked all who supported the day, especially the Rouchel and Belltrees cricket players who provided the entertainment of the cricket match.

She said the descendants of Joseph Docker who travelled to attend the event were thrilled with the weekend and will be back in two years’ time with other international residents to support the event. 

United Hospital Auxiliary secretary Audrey Knight said she was delighted to receive the donation.

She said the money would go towards purchasing bedside cabinets for the care and comfort of patients in the hospital.
