Receiving an RV Friendly rating is not only good for travellers but great for local business according to Upper Hunter Shire councillor and Merriwa Tourism Committee chairman Ron Campbell.
“Having an RV sign encourages more people to stay overnight and enjoy some of the things we can offer here in Merriwa.
“We have good facilities at the caravan park, an easily accessible dump point, fuel station and supermarket so travellers can stop and recharge the batteries before moving on,” he said.
Cr Campbell said the new RV signage was in keeping with the Upper Hunter Shire Council’s push to promote tourism within the shire.
“We have so many interesting tourism destinations in Merriwa, from The Hut in town brimming with historic artefacts and handmade treasures to The Drip rock formation and pools.
“We also have an old Convict Cutting we hope to develop as our next major tourism project,” he said.
The RV signage puts Merriwa alongside Murrurundi on the touring map and websites of RV Friendly Towns - www.rvfriendly.com.au and the Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia - www.cmca.net.au
