With Australia Day just around the corner on Monday, there are four more reasons to get into the festive mood with community celebrations in Aberdeen, Scone, Merriwa and Murrurundi.
Aberdeen is great for the early birds with bacon and egg rolls available for a gold donation at the Aberdeen Rose Garden from 7am.
For the golfers, a 3 person Ambrose competition will tee off at Aberdeen Golf Club at 9am followed by lunch ($20 per head, bookings required) and awards ceremony at the Aberdeen Sports and Recreation Club.
Young and old alike are welcome to try their hand at lawns bowls from 3pm.
Scone will welcome the town’s newest citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony from 10.30am with ambassador Sarah Garnett (founder of the Benjamin Andrew Footpath Library) address and local awards ceremony.
The Scone Memorial Swimming Pool will be the place to cool down and fill up on Monday with free admission and a sausage sizzle, novelty events and jumping castle from 12noon to 4pm.
Murrurundi residents will be able to take a leisurely tour of the Murra Country Markets from 8am then watch the grand parade from the Rosedale Complex from 11am.
Surfrider Foundation founder Brad Farmer will deliver this year’s ambassador address followed by the awards ceremony from 12noon.
At 1pm the Wilson Memorial Oval will host a range for games and novelty events for the family with a friendly cricket match from 5pm.
For the water rats, the Murrurundi Swimming Pool is offering free admission from 2pm to 7pm.
Merriwa Sports Club will host this year’s ceremony and welcome ambassador ABC radio presenter John Clarke.
A free barbecue lunch will be available from 12noon with free admission at the Merriwa Pool from 2pm to 6pm.
