With children heading back to school next week there are a lot of things to think about to organise.
Many parents, especially parents of kindergarten students who are new to the school system, may not have organised their child’s free bus pass.
Osborn’s Transport is currently processing the more than 2000 passes that are issued each year across the Scone, Aberdeen, Muswellbrook and Denman areas.
You can contact them now to organise the paperwork for your child’s new bus pass as the office is open from 7am to 4pm five days a week.
Bus passes are free for all children who live more than 1.6 kilometres from their school, as well as all children in kindergarten through to year 2.
Children aged from year 3 upwards who live within the 1.6 kilometre perimeter are required to pay fees for their pass.
Regardless of cost, Transport for NSW requires students going into year 3 and year 7 to re-apply for their bus pass.
Osborn’s Transport representative Melinda Halloran said the process of gaining a bus pass was pretty simple, including paperwork and the staff are always willing to help out.
“Basically if your child is starting kindergarten or going into year 3 or year 7, you will need to contact us or your school to complete the paperwork, otherwise your child’s pass will automatically be printed and distributed at the start of the school term.
“So, if your child is going into year 2 they will automatically get their pass, but if they’re going into year 3 you need to re-apply.
“This is due to the eligibility criteria set by Transport for NSW.
“Any students who have changed address will also need to re-apply,” she said.
Bus drivers will have application forms or you can also obtain the paperwork from your school.
